Although some stepper-based systems don't have encoders, some do. So we would need to know whether to report the encoder velocity, or motor velocity in terms of steps. Although you want to avoid any workarounds, in Galil software you can always plot the derivative of TD, to get an instant step motor velocity. Alternately, a change can be made to firmware to force TV (or create a new command) to report the step motor velocity. Contact support@galil.com if this is something you wish to pursue.
