There are many ways to tune the Galil PID filter, ranging from auto-tuning methods in GalilTools or WSDK, to an assortment of manual methods.  For the novice user, how to manually tune the PID filter may not be easy nor obvious.  A new manual tuning method gives the user a simple to follow, step-by-step approach to tuning the PID filter.  This new method, called velocity-zone tuning, focuses on isolating portions of the PID loop and using the GalilTools scope to very simply select filter values.  The goal of this tuning is to allow any user, regardless of experience or expertise with tuning control systems, to quickly select PID gains for optimum system performance.
