Hi, I have a DMC-2163 and I want to connect it to Gecko servo drives. Most of the drive I have seen have an input for the motor encoders which is the case for the Geckos. Do I hook up the encoders to the Galil DMC and not connect anything to the drive or do I daisy-chain them to both. I'm missing something here.

The Gecko drives take step & direction inputs and drive a dc motor. They are not ordinary drives that take +/- 0-10 volts with the Galil controlling by encoder feedback. You will have to set your Galil to step mode for that axis and do not connect the encoder to the Galil. You could write code to have the Galil take the encoder signals and make corrections if necessary but you still hook the encoder to the Geckos. The Geckos basically feed steps to the dc motor with the encoder acting as the step feedback to the Geckos. In step mode on the Galil, it does not know or care if the motor moves or not, but it only sends the correct number of pulses to produce the move distance.
Hope I didn't confuse too much. Al
